Our Story

Who We Are

Founded in 2015, STEAM:CODERS is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing disadvantaged students with opportunities to learn the fundamentals of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math (STEAM), by providing them with exciting and educational academic experiences. We educate, inspire and equip students with the knowledge, resources, and skills needed to pursue academic and career opportunities in the STEAM-related fields.

Our team, Sponsors, Partners, Staff, and Volunteers come from a variety of disciplines and fields including education, information technology, art and design, science, and mathematics. We have gathered a collection of passionate supporters and contributors who share our vision of introducing 1,000,000 students to the fundamentals of STEAM, by 2045.

What We Do

STEAM:CODERS delivers instruction, field trips, and mentoring to spur interest and help students develop an appreciation for STEAM. We teach logic, critical thinking, and problem solving. We create pathways, so students can embrace the STEAM fields, early in their academic tenures.

Students use the logic, critical thinking, and problem solving skills that they develop in our program to build a foundation that will contribute to the innovation that makes this nation stronger and safer for all.

How We Do It

STEAM:CODERS partners and collaborates with educational institutions, non-profit youth organizations, and corporate sponsors to bring computer science fundamental classes, workshops, and field trips to students in Title 1 Schools and underserved communities. These partnerships include computer labs, classrooms, equipment donations, staff, and volunteers. To find out more, visit our Partners page.

Our classes and workshops are highlighted through school curriculum, afterschool programs, non-profit enrichment activities, and community events. Our instructors are college computer science majors, computer science professionals, and volunteers. We supplement classroom activities with field trips with a first hand look at professionals in the field.  To learn more, list our Classes page.
