Impact

STEAM:CODERS has served students throughout Los Angeles County, for nearly a decade. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Title I schools have experienced a myriad of challenges. Subsequently, student performance has been in decline. Combined with the explosion of opportunities in the technology fields, there is a disconnect between aptitude and opportunity. At STEAM:CODERS, we have recognized this disconnect and made a commitment to help develop the next generation of leaders.

In addition to providing STEAM classes, workshops, camps and field trips, we have equipped students with computer equipment (chromebooks or laptops) and internet services, so they can participate in our activities.

Other highlights of our program include the following;

  • Volunteers from major corporations (i.e., Apple, Google, Warner Bros. Discovery, Nickelodeon, SoCalGas and many more) engage with our students to share their stories and provide insight into their careers.
  • Field trips give students a “peak behind the curtain,” allowing them to see how STEAM skills are utilized in the real world.
  • Visits to colleges and universities allow students to envision themselves walking across campuses, studying in computer labs and makerspaces, while meeting other students from around the world.
